Dell Introduces Art Edition For Studio Range

Dell has launched five Special Art Edition designs for the Dell Studio 15 and 17 laptops, created by urban artist Mike Ming.

The designs for the Dell Studio 15 and 17 laptops include “Red Swirl,” “Seaweed,” “Sunburst,” “Bunch O Surfers” and “Sea Sky.” Each piece of artwork is brought to life through Dell’s manufacturing technique, which enables every color and individual brushstroke to be permanently “tattooed” on the laptop’s cover. The Special Art Edition Dell Studio laptops are available for order today on www.dell.co.in, starting at Rs. 59,800 for the Dell Studio 15.

Brooklyn-based artist Mike Ming (born Michael Miyahira) blends popular culture, motion and emotion to communicate his visual world. According to Ming, “The technology behind creating Dell’s Art House series of laptops allows me to share my visual creations with people who are inspired by art and who want to express their own individually unique sense of style.”

Dell Launches New line Of Latitude and Precision Laptops

Dell has announced a completely new line of Latitude and Dell Precision laptops, ranging from the lightest ultra-portable in the company’s line-up to powerful mobile workstations.
Dell maintains that the new Latitude systems provide breakthrough battery life and sport a brilliant new design and style. The laptops also come in a choice of five colors.
The re-engineered Latitude lineup caters to a wide range of user profiles.

Ultra-Portable – The Dell Latitude E4200 is a 12.1-inch laptop that starts at 2.2 pounds, making it the lightest commercial notebook the company has produced. The 13.3-inch Latitude E4300 has a starting weight of 3.3 pounds and is designed for road warriors and executives. The systems will be available in the coming weeks.

Mainstream – The Dell Latitude E6400 and E6500, available today, are 14.1- and 15.4-inch laptops that start at $1,139 and $1,169, respectively. The systems are desktop replacements for high-performance users.

Essential – The Latitude E5400, a 14.1-inch notebook, starts at $839, and the E5500, a 15.4-inch notebook starts at $869. Available today, the systems include everyday features.

Semi-Rugged – The Latitude E6400 ATG is a 14.1-inch semi-rugged laptop that starts at $2,399 and will be available next week. It is built and tested to meet Military 810F standards for dust, vibration and humidity.
In addition to Mica-Brushed Metal, the Latitude E4200, E4300, E6400 and E6500 will be available in Regatta Blue, Regal Red and Quartz Pink (E4200 only) in the coming weeks. The E5400 and E5500 are available in Matte Black.

Sony Announces E-series of MP3 Players

Even though there has been no official word this side of the world about the release of their E-series of Mp3 players, it turns out that Sony’s New Zealand website has already released information on the product. According to Sony Insider, who did all the leg work, the three models are – the NWZ-E435 (2GB), NWZ-E436 (4GB), and NWZ-E438 (8GB).

Each of them feature a 2-inch QVGA TFT LCD screen capable of displaying 262,144 colors. These will be as slim as possible at 8.5mm and will only weigh 50g. An FM tuner is included, and codec support is the usual MP3/ WMA/ AAC/ Linear PCM. Battery life is rated at 1150 songs/76hrs 40mins (48kbps), 885 songs/59hrs (64kbps), 440 songs/29hrs 20mins (128kbps), 220 songs/14hrs 40mins (256kbps), 175 songs/11hrs 40mins (320kbps) for music. Battery life for video is rated at 7hrs 10mins at 384kbps video, 4hrs at 768kbps video.
Transferring music is easy as each device is drag and drop and compatible with Windows Media Player and even iTunes.

Lenovo To Introduce Slim X301 Laptop

Lenovo is all set to introduce an update to its Macbook Air competitor, the X300. The new notebook will be called the X301 and will expand on the first model by using Centrino 2 ultra-low voltage Core 2 Duo processors which will run at a speculated speed of both 1.2GHz and 1.4 GHz processors. They are also looking to extend the battery life of the original.

The X301 will also add a 128 GB solid-state drive and add DisplayPort without removing VGA. This gives users the choice of both, an analog and digital display. The company will also offer a faster, HSPA-based 3G option for AT&T data subscribers in the states and will also seek to add WiMAX as an option once Sprint’s Xohm network launches in September of this year.
The X301 will be available at a price of $2599 and will be available at fixed vendors from 29 Aug. onwards.

LG India Announces Freedom Offer

LG Electronics India Pvt. Ltd has announced a special ‘Freedom Offer’ on its 19″ wide and 22″ wide LCD monitors. The company is increasing its warranty on these particular models to 5 years, up from the previous 3 years.

Under this offer, on the purchase of an LG LCD Monitor between 16 August ‘08 to 30th September ‘08, customers are entitled to avail of an extended warranty of 2 years.

Computex 08: MSI Releases Wind Laptop

MSI has unveiled the MSI Wind codename U100 at Computex 2008. It will be available in 2 different versions and will be differentiated on the basis of its OS, i.e. either Linux or Windows XP.The Windows XP version of the MSI Wind is priced at $499 MSRP, and will be available for purchase starting June 16th. The Linux based MSI Wind will be available later for $399 MSRP.

The Windows version of the MSI Wind features an 80GB 2.5 SATA hard drive, 1.6Ghz Intel Atom CPU and 10-inch screen. The Wind’s display features embedded LED power-saving backlight technology, which provides color quality and brightness, a 1.3M webcam, Bluetooth capabilities, 3 USB ports and a 4-in-1 card reader.
With this launch I am sure that MSI can now breathe easy. I mean after all they were unwilling to confirm what was the worst kept secret – MSI using the Intel Atom processor, which was all but announced at IDF earlier.

Microsoft Reorganizes its Online Services

Microsoft Corp. was to reorganize its online services to try to increase focus on its Internet business as the head of its online division was set to leave the company, The Wall Street Journal said Thursday.Microsoft announced Wednesday that Kevin Johnson, the influential head of its online division was joining the network hardware maker Juniper Networks Inc.Johnson is widely regarded as one of the architects of Microsoft’s failed takeover attempt of the Internet portal Yahoo Inc.Microsoft’s platform and services division is to split into two groups, one in charge of the Windows operating system and a second for Microsoft online services.Microsoft invested billions of dollars into its online business in the past years with limited success.Rival Google Inc. remains the dominant force in online advertising while competition for Microsoft is increasing in office software as other companies offer such products on the internet.

Google Launches Wikipedia Competitor, knol

Google Inc. is taking the wraps off an Internet encyclopedia designed to give people a chance to show off – and profit from – their expertise on any topic.The service, dubbed ”knol” in reference to a unit of knowledge, had been limited to an invitation-only audience of contributors and readers for the past seven months.Now anyone with a Google login will be able to submit an article and, if they choose, have ads displayed through the Internet search leader’s marketing system. The contributing author and Google will share any revenue generated from the ads, which are supposed to be related to the topic covered in the knol.The advertising option could encourage people to write more entries about commercial subjects than the more academic topics covered in traditional encyclopedias.Since Google disclosed its intention to build knol, it has been widely viewed as the company’s answer to Wikipedia, which has emerged as one of the Web’s leading reference tools by drawing upon the collective wisdom of unpaid, anonymous contributors.But Google views knol more as a supplement to Wikipedia than a competitor, said Cedric Dupont, a Google product manager. Google reasons that Wikipedia’s contributors will be able to use some of the expertise shared on knol to improve Wikipedia’s existing entries.With a seven-year head start on knol, Wikipedia already has nearly 2.5 million English-language articles and millions more in dozens of other languages.Knol is starting out with several hundred entries. The initial topics covered include an overview of constipation by a University of San Francisco associate professor of gastroenterology and backpacking advice from one of Google’s own software engineers.Unlike Wikipedia, knol requires the authors to identify themselves to help the audience assess the source’s credibility. Google doesn’t intend to screen the submissions for accuracy, Dupont said, and instead will rely on its search formulas to highlight the articles that readers believe are credible.Google has had mixed success so far in its attempts to expand beyond its ubiquitous search engine, which generates most of its profits. While products like its e-mail service have been hits, other forays like a listing system called ”Base” and a social network called Orkut haven’t fared as well.
