Dell has launched five Special Art Edition designs for the Dell Studio 15 and 17 laptops, created by urban artist Mike Ming.

The designs for the Dell Studio 15 and 17 laptops include “Red Swirl,” “Seaweed,” “Sunburst,” “Bunch O Surfers” and “Sea Sky.” Each piece of artwork is brought to life through Dell’s manufacturing technique, which enables every color and individual brushstroke to be permanently “tattooed” on the laptop’s cover. The Special Art Edition Dell Studio laptops are available for order today on www.dell.co.in, starting at Rs. 59,800 for the Dell Studio 15.

Brooklyn-based artist Mike Ming (born Michael Miyahira) blends popular culture, motion and emotion to communicate his visual world. According to Ming, “The technology behind creating Dell’s Art House series of laptops allows me to share my visual creations with people who are inspired by art and who want to express their own individually unique sense of style.”

“It’s exciting and fun discovering new artists around the world who can create emotional ties, uniqueness and personalization with individuals’ personal technology,” said Girish Mehta, Director of Consumer Marketing, Dell India. “The Special Art Edition designs reflect our customers’ desires to add another level of individuality to everyday life.”

Alert yourself about important events with different alarms and replace your Windows tray clock using different skins.
Computer Alarm clock that will play any MP3 file. It can also run a program, log off, wake up, reboot, shut down, turn off etc…
Atomic Alarm Clock is also an atomic-time synchronizer and advanced replacement for Windows tray clock. See the time, seconds, day, date, countdowns, percent of memory in use and system UpTime in different skins. Displays the time for any of the time zones. Over 130 skins are included in the distribution.
It is supported by Longhorn clock style.
This program includes multilingual interface support!
This computer alarm clock is built into your personal PC and completely customizable.
Computer Alarm Clock?
> All I’m looking for is an computer alarm clock
> function for my PC. Ideally it would pop up a window at
> a predetermined time with some text message that I supply.
> It should pop up over what ever is on screen (don’t know
> about graphics).
> I would like to be able to set multiple alarms and it
> would be nice if a
> clock could also be displayed in some corner of the screen.
> Does anyone know of software that provides a message-alarm
> clock that takes up minimal RAM.
Try Atomic alarm clock from http://www.drive-software.com
Computer as Alert Clock
> I would like to set my computer to play an mp3 file at a
> specific time every morning as an alarm clock.
Use desktop Clock from: http://www.drive-software.com…
clock
> I want to replace my radio clock by a better
> version hooked to my PC. This is what I want:
> My pc has tons of music on it, I want my new alarm
> clock to randomly play one of my files at the time
> I want to be waken.
Try http://www.drive-software.com/atomicalarmclock.html
Alarm Clock for PC?
> Are there any products out there that work as a ‘real’
> alarm clock for my computer. I’ve seen freeware/shareware
> that work as alarm clocks (but only do so as long as the
> computer is on), but I’m looking for one that will turn
> ON the computer at six in the morning.(or whatever time)
What need is hardware. The on/off button on your system should be changed to sleep/wake in the BIOS.
Using my computer as an alarm clock
> Hello all,
> I’m a college student and would like to use my computer
> as an alarm clock. Are there any programs for this?
Program that has alrm clock feature on the Computer
> Any one know of a program that will act like an alrm
> clock on the PC??
> Thanks Mike
Alarm clock for pc
> Hello all!
> I have an alarm clock on my pc, but if my pc is
> not on at the time of the alarm, it doesn’t
> appear on screen to let me know. Does anyone know
> of a programme that will still notify me if I
> switch on the pc after the alarm was supposed
> to have went.
Automation to make super smart alarm clock?
> I cant find the “features” I want in a bedside alarm
> clock.
> I want an alarm that once I setup I basically never
> have to mess with.
> I want something that has a calendar in it that know to
> NOT wake me up on sat or Sunday…or to wake me up at a
> later time. Same for holidays. this clock should
> “know” it is a holiday and adjust accordingly.
> I also want an alarm clock that sets itself to correct
> time when power goes out or when daylight savings time
> change occurs.
> I also want “option” on how this clock wakes me up….
> whether it be traditional alarms…..radio stations….
> turning furnace up and TV on…. whatever!
software alarm clock
> I am looking for an alarm clock program to run on
> windows xp.
alarm to play mp3′s
> Are there any recommended alarm clocks to play mp3′s
> at preset times, preferably for settable time periods
> (eg 4 alarms or more per day which can play mp3′s
> for say 15 minutes before resettibg?
Program to open a page and play an alarm
> I once saw a program that would allow a REVO
> (or any other Series 5) to go to a certain page and
> start playing a tune or sound(alarm?) when the machine
> was opened or switched on. Does anyone know where I
> could find this?
Timer/alarm clock type program…
> I need an alarm clock type program that I can set to
> “ring” at a particular time, but I also want it to be
> able to run other programs when the time is reached.
> Essentially, I want to leave the computer running
> during the night, and then at a set time in the
> morning, I want outlook express and winamp to start.
> And also my PIM.
> And I also want the program to just emmit a ring-like
> sound at a specified time as a reminder to do things
> and the like.
> Am I making any sense? If so, any programs you know of?

Lenovo is all set to introduce an update to its Macbook Air competitor, the X300. The new notebook will be called the X301 and will expand on the first model by using Centrino 2 ultra-low voltage Core 2 Duo processors which will run at a speculated speed of both 1.2GHz and 1.4 GHz processors. They are also looking to extend the battery life of the original.

The X301 will also add a 128 GB solid-state drive and add DisplayPort without removing VGA. This gives users the choice of both, an analog and digital display. The company will also offer a faster, HSPA-based 3G option for AT&T data subscribers in the states and will also seek to add WiMAX as an option once Sprint’s Xohm network launches in September of this year.
The X301 will be available at a price of $2599 and will be available at fixed vendors from 29 Aug. onwards.

After displaying its prowess in developing the world’s cheapest car, India is on track to rolling out the world’s cheapest laptop computer that could cost as low as $10, a top official said in New Delhi Tuesday.
Minister of State for Human Resource Development D. Purandeswari said research was being conducted to develop the laptop, especially for use by students, which will cost all of $10.
“Research in this direction is being already carried out at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras,” she told the e-India annual summit on information and communication technologies.
The laptop, when produced, will prove to be a breakthrough device that could solve the problems of low computer literacy and e-learning not only in India, but also the world over, she added.
Earlier this year, India’s Tata Group had unveiled the “Nano” that was touted as the world’s cheapest car costing all of $2,500 and the announcement had grabbed global headlines.
The cheapest laptop available today is at least 10 times costlier. The “XO” sold by the Massachusetts-based non-government organization ‘One Laptop Per Child Foundation’ sells for $188.
The foundation, started by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) alumnus Nicholas Negroponte, aims to supply the low cost machines to the governments of developing countries for them to source it to school children.
But the Indian government rejected the offer in 2006, calling it an experimental model.
“India must not allow itself to be used for experimentation with children in this area,” the human resource ministry had stated then.
However the project was taken up by the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group to be implemented as a pilot in Maharashtra’s Khairat village.
Under this initiative, Reliance Communications will provide net connectivity, backbone, logistics, and support to the OLPC initiative. “The initiative aims at covering over 25,000 towns, and 6,00,000 villages in the country by 2008.”

Kingston Technology Company has announced the release of its first Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS)-validated USB Flash drive, the DataTraveler BlackBox, available in 2GB, 4GB and 8GB capacities. Gaining FIPS 140-2 certification requires a validation process that meets federal requirements set by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and the Communications Security Establishment of the Government of Canada. This is critical because many governmental agencies in the United States and Canada mandate that sensitive “data at rest” (i.e., all information not in the network) must be encrypted with the FIPS 140-2 standard.

“We are very excited that our DataTraveler BlackBox met all federal requirements established by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST),” said Nitin Malhotra, Kingston Country Manager, India. “This certification, along with other enhanced security features, makes the DT BlackBox an ideal way to store and transport confidential documents with the utmost confidence that the data is secure.”

The FIPS Level 2 standard requires the DT BlackBox to run a power-on self test which verifies that the encryption architecture is functioning each time it is plugged into a USB port. Beyond the NIST certification, the DataTraveler BlackBox features 256-bit hardware-based AES encryption via a dedicated processor which automatically encrypts and decrypts data on the fly. The drive automatically locks down after ten consecutive failed password attempts, thus helping to prevent unauthorized access if the drive is lost, stolen or misplaced.
The Kingston DataTraveler BlackBox is available for Rs. 4,999 (2GB), Rs. 6,999 (4GB) and Rs. 11,199 (8GB).

Transcend has introduced a new 64 GB high speed SLC 2.5-inch Solid State Disk (SSD).

Austin Huang, Regional Head – Sales, SAARC and APAC, Transcend, said, “Transcend’s 2.5″ SSD can be used in most notebook computers and mainstream PCs just like a regular hard drive. When it comes to performance, Transcend’s new SLC flash memory-equipped 64GB SSD offers data transfer rates that greatly surpass even the fastest 2.5″ hard drives, delivering data read/write speeds of up to 119MB and 64MB per second, respectively. With these high-speed transfer rates and virtually non-existent (less than 0.1ms) latency, Transcend’s SSD accelerates computer boot-up times, makes games and applications open faster and run more smoothly, and improves overall system responsiveness.”
Transcend’s Solid State Disk’s integrated ECC (Error Correction Code) ensures reliable data transfer and increases system integrity. Its built-in wear leveling technology also guarantees ultra-long storage lifespan and data-retention durability for prolonged use. With no moving parts, SSDs run cool, generate no noise, and require very little power for operation.
Transcend’s 2.5″ SSDs are available in capacities ranging from 8 GB to 64 GB in both SATA and IDE versions. It supports up to Ultra DMA Mode 4 and is compatible with devices and O/S that support the IDE standard.
The SSD costs Rs. 33,000 and comes with a 2-year warranty.
